Alpine Daffodils 31/05/2014

Alpine season continues, Now I am interested in blooms, after the crocus I am searching for Narcissus (daffodils). It's not easy to find out, year by year, differents spectacular landscapes, so it's a continuous research, from valleys to peaks. In mountain the weather changes very quickly and we dont have more than five clear days on a month. This year I was lucky, Nature also gave me some beautiful clouds!

Photography is not just great light with a majestic sunrise, breathtaking colors or incredible clouds and stars. When photographing, for example in a famous location, we must try to realize some shots that describe the beauty of the place.
Why not to do it in the most classic moment of the day, which is what people are used to experience? Try to study the composition, wait for a unique situation, always with the goal to communicate a small photo story.

I tried for years to realize a shot like this and only after several attempts i reached on my intent. This result is thanks to many conditions overlapped at the appropriate time: the perfect flowering of Rhododendrons, plenty of water in the creek caused by three days of bad weather in the valley, interesting clouds in the sky and the good light, just two hours after the sunrise to provide a good illumination on the scene.
I used a Neutral Density filter (ND1000) plus a Polarizator to allow me to reach a long exposure time of 30 seconds, essential for the flowing effect on the water and into the sky.

Double Sunburst 03/07/2013

In the mountains I often take photos in similar situations... but never the same.
In the higher altitudes the landscape changes easily from season to season and from year to year, it is nevertheless essential to diversify the interest of shots with a careful study of the composition and graphic elements that compose it.
In this case I let the sun to focus mirrored into the subject of my photo-trip, the thaw!
A perfect sunburst is prerogative of some camera lenses (better with fisheye and wideangle lenses) but in general with any lens it improves in proportion to a smaller Aperture of the lens.

Double Sun 01/06/2013

The focus and the emotional subject of this shot is certainly the sun.
With this backlight technique I wanted to emphasize its presence with a unusual double presence in the landscape.
How to do it? Just select a wide angle lens, possibly under 17-18mm focal, prepare the camera with a smaller (f-stop) aperture, for example f-18, and find out a moment when the sun is clear from the clouds. Use a tripod if the shutter speed is not higher than 1/100s and perhaps find out a composition with a reflection like in my alpine shot at Gavia Pass, italy.

Bernina Express Train 13/05/2013

One of the best experience in the Alps is crossing the border between Italy and Switzerland, comfortably on board of the Bernina Express UNESCO World Heritage train, a milestone in our history...
Just imagine a way to travel from southern (Tirano, IT) to northern alps (Chur, CH) through a landscape of glaciers, over graceful viaducts and bridges (196), through tunnels (55) hewn into the sheer rock, through switch-back tunnels, along rushing mountain streams and even an alpine garden.
The Rhaetian is the highest mountain Railway in the Alps and coexists in perfect harmony with its glorious mountain setting with a record of up to 70 millimetres per metre of incline that are found along its route.
In this picture we can admire the highest point of the ride, the Bernina Pass (2,253 metres), with the spectacular red train that passes (in spring) at the border of the White Lake.

Beauty is all around us, just to be sought.
I always thought to photography as an art, it must be refined through the study and observation.
I believe we have very poor souls if we are not able to see and to enjoy the great beauty around us! The art of photography preserves all our moments of joy or sadness, friends, relatives, common people, landscapes or amazing views all over the Universe as long as photos can be. They are the memory of our moments of life!

Kanchenjunga 8586 31/10/2012

Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, seen from Sandakphu, during my  trekking of 2010 between the Indian region of Sikkim and the Nepalese border.

Matterhorn... the beautiful! 28/10/2012

Matterhorn (Cervino) is one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, an icon symbol of the Alps, so easily photographed in every guise. I therefore could have asked Nature for nothing more when that day it offered me such an unusual situation! And thanks to Fate too!

Over Clouds in the Vallée 27/10/2012

Some of the most majestic peaks in the Alps (Dent d'Herens, Matterhorn, Zinalrothorn, Weisshorn) emerge from the clouds in the magical moment when the first daylight is painting their summit.

Autumn Waterfall 22/10/2012

During my mountain trips I often try to escape the traditional paths in search of some hidden views that the landscape always jealously conceals. In this case I was in Valle d'Aosta's Park of Mont Avic in the middle of autumn... waiting for sunset when I suddenly stumbled upon this wonder that I captured with a long shutter speed.

Autumn Reflection 20/10/2012

Is in the most beautiful situations we often fail to extract an image able to evoke the beauty of the moment. It is the task of the photographer to capture a scene in an artistic way, by introducing elements of interest just apparently hidden in the landscape.

Autumn Incoming 08/10/2012

I've been feeling the first faint signs of the coming autumn for days, so it's now time for me to take up this new challenge. May something surprising be waiting for me in Engadine (Switzerland) today? I decide to take it this way, soaring high above the clouds and looking for the first light of colours!

Nivolet Lakes 27/09/2012

A spectacular view of the valley leading to the Col del Nivolet in the province of Turin (Piedmont). The Alps have often been exploited for hydroelectric purposes. Nevertheless, some artificial lakes that have formed are well integrated into the landscape.

King of Rock 25/09/2012

Monviso, "the clearly visible mountain", is a symbol of water in Italy. Here the long course of the Po River begins its journey to the sea. Its prominent summit, easily distinguishable from the distant plain, is the tenth in the entire Alpine region. A long exposure through a neutral density filter allowed me to emphasize the flowing of the waterfall.

Les Aiguilles 13/09/2012

The mountain is for me a source of inspiration and isolation from the chaos of the everyday world. Photography thus becomes a means of trying to remember forever the good times we had together, the mountains and I love to capture unusual images in isolated places or not so famous. Different situations are for me the source of inspiration when I brush my shots, as in this case where a simple cloud draws plots of contrasting lights.
